Australia&#8217;s benchmark ASX 200 was up 0.4 percent as the heavily weighted financial subindex added 0.7 percent while the energy subindex was up 1 percent. The Shanghai composite was up 0.2 percent while the Shenzhen composite rose 0.2 percent. Hong Kong&#8217;s Hang Seng index gave up most of its early gains to trade higher by 0.1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The British parliament failed on Monday to find a majority for any proposed alternative to Prime Minister Theresa May&#8217;s divorce deal, though support for an alternative that included a customs union was far higher than for May&#8217;s deal.
