However, renewed concerns about Brexit weighed on sentiment following reports that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is taking a hard line on Britain&#8217;s transition period for leaving the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s Nikkei 225 lost 0.6%, while the Topix slumped 0.5%. Japan\u2019s exports fell 7.9% in November from a year earlier, declining for the 12th straight month, according to data from the country\u2019s Ministry of Finance on Wednesday. However, it still beat a forecast of a 8.6% drop in a Reuters poll, and was better than the 9.2% decline in October.<\/p>\n<p>In mainland China, the Shanghai composite was down 0.2%, while the Shenzhen composite fell 0.1%. Hong Kong\u2019s Hang Seng index was down 0.2%. Australia\u2019s ASX 200 was flat, with banks and major miners declining.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of its peers, was last at 97.337 after touching lows below 97.0 earlier this week.
